In the wake of New York passing a bill that allows Gay marriage it seems the fight for equality has just began. Although, this may be a corner stone to our progress, I still believe this world has a lot of changing to do before we might see the acceptance of this redefining culture. As a society it is our responsibility to grow, to progress, and to change. Although many feel that Gay is wrong or even sinful it is not your responsibility as a soldier of God to impede on others free will. Millions were spent trying to prohibit this bill from passing. Millions that could have gone to other causes, like feeding children, helping single mothers that struggle to keep a roof over their children’s head, and other ways that help families. But millions were spent in an attempt to destroy the redefinition of two people that love each other that desperately want to start a family. Yet we as a society felt it necessary to waste our time and money standing in the way of something that might actually enrich our community.
Gay in America is often looked down upon because of promiscuity, because of lack of responsibility, because of vanity and shallowness. It is society that has impeded us from redefining ourselves by allowing us stability. We are victims to society’s labels and have gone through enough struggles internally that at the end of the day you wonder if it’s worth the fight. When you live in a world that views us as the enemy and that our lust is the reason for moral decay, yet it truly is the one pointing the finger that has hindered our ability to prove we can live in committed relationships. I applaud New York for supporting Gay Marriage. But I challenge the world to grow as human beings and understand love is defined by only two people. The two people that love each other.
